Up we go. Morning call. Breakfast buffet and then onto the bus to buy our 3 day passport that we wear around our necks (very sexy) to head to one of many temples we will be seeing this fine morning. As we approach each temple, we are surrounded by children selling knicknacks. Most approach us with Mandarin. They intelligently switch to English when they realize we are speaking English to each other. They are surprisingly quite vocal and verbose. If we don't buy anything from them, they ask for candy (which is always done in Mandarin). They give you a compliment (Sister, you are so pretty, please give me candy). Although, I met a few who were quite the mischievous bunch. Their voices are very sing songy. In response to saying no to buying postcards he replied with "You no buy postcard, you have no friends?" In response to saying "I don't think so" to a purchase, he responded "No need to think, need to buy". My brother told one lady that he would buy a coconut when he exited the temple and she said "I remember you." As we exited, she ran towards him saying "I remember you!"
First stop: Preah Khan (Sacred Sword)
The picture above: If you touch the phallic end...you will birth a boy. If you touch the bottom flat area, you will birth a girl.
Numero dos: Preah Neak Pean. This one I particularly liked. It was pretty with all the pools and the intertwining Naga's to form the central fountain. But first, some chickens. =)
The legend that goes with the above pictures states that Avalokiteshvara turned into a flying horse and saved a group of shipwrecked people from an island of ghouls. Can see the human legs under the horse.
And continuing our quest for fruits. And my pretty new bag. =) <3 Yay! My bag has not broken yet!
Temple #3: Ta Som + And the Fruits!! The Fruits!!
Final stop for the morning: East Mebon. Elephants and holes...reoccuring themes. And of course...the fruits!
They really are cute, the elephants. I wish there were more real ones around that we could pet and ride. One complaint, is that all the tourism and commercialism and expansion has really driven the wildlife away, if there was any. =(
Then off to buffet lunch and as the Asians take their afternoon siesta, it's pool time for the kiddies!
